OION’s first Showcase of 2018 was held last week in collaboration with RACE (the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s centre for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) at Culham Science Centre, Oxfordshire. Featuring solely investment opportunities from the ‘Robotics & AI’ sector, the Showcase saw ten interesting and diverse companies pitch for investment. Robotics and AI are a key part of the UK Industrial Strategy and OION is proud to be at the forefront of connecting these ambitious high growth companies from this sector with highly active investors.

The Showcase also featured a panel session where Dr Rob Buckingham (Director ‎UK Atomic Energy Authority & Head of RACE), Professor Barry Lennox (Professor of Applied Control in the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at University of Manchester) and Professor Paul Beasley (Head of R&D at Siemens plc) provided a fascinating insight into the current and future applications of Robotics & AI and what they believe the UK needs to do to become a world-leader in this sector.

Prior to the Showcase, attendees were also provided with the opportunity to tour the RACE and JET (Joint European Torus) facilities located on-site at Culham Science Centre. Sited in one of the most successful science locations in the country, Culham Science Centre combines world-class publicly funded research into fusion power; commercial technology organisations and Culham Innovation Centre, to create a powerhouse of high technology innovation and enterprise in South Oxfordshire.

The next OION Ltd Showcase will be held on Wednesday 28th February at the offices of Rathbones in London. If you are a potential investor interested in attending, please contact us for further details.
